Dear Valued Partners and Colleagues,
I’m pleased to share with you Equality Myanmar’s 2017 Annual Report. It tells the story of how Equality Myanmar is empowering individuals and organizations through education and advocacy to take action each day to support human rights. Despite the challenges civil society faced in 2017, we continue to believe in the power of ideas to mobilize people against injustice and indignities and to promote a culture of human rights for all.
Here’s a preview:
- Ma Phyu Phyu Kyaw, a graduate of the Human Rights Training of the Trainer, said her training gave her the skills and confidence to run for her city development council, becoming the first woman elected in Paunghtae Township, Bago. Now she intends to user position to promote women’s rights.
- Equality Myanmar and partner Myanma Fifth Estate launched the mobile version of Open Hluttaw, a ground-breaking tool that enables anyone with a smart phone to access to information about and get in touch with their elected representatives in national parliament.
- Equality Myanmar’s national campaign to raise awareness and support for ratification of the International Covenant for Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) was jointly implemented by 43 local organizations that gained 6,000 signatures of support by the end of 2017.
