Human Rights Day 2018 – Invitation
Dear Friends,
As you know, Human Rights Day is around the corner! And this year, stars have aligned to celebrate not one but two very relevant events: the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the 20th anniversary of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders (DHRD).
To commemorate such auspicious occasion, Equality Myanmar and partners are rolling out an unprecedented series of events in the country. We will host, in collaboration with the Human Rights Educators Network (HREN) and the Rights for All Consortium, 12 local events in different States and Regions to celebrate Human Rights Day with our beneficiaries and constituencies. Among others, we will have events in Shan, Bago, Mon, Ayeyarwaddy and Rakhine. If you happen to be there on the 9th and 10th December, please get in touch with us!
In addition to that, Equality Myanmar is one of the organizing partners of the Yangon Stands Up For Human Rights Event, which will happen on Sunday 9th December from 15.00 at the Goethe Institute. The event is organised by Myanmar civil society organisations and human rights defenders, together with the UN and its agencies in Myanmar, and the European Union in Myanmar. Participants and visitors will enjoy interactive information booths offering games, quizzes & prizes, virtual reality films, a literature corner for kids, and live art performances to discover the rights and principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration; human rights talks where human rights defenders from across Myanmar tell their stories; children’s theater, and live musical acts including performances by Myanmar rock bands Side Effect and The Reasonabilists. All activities are open to the public, free-of-charge.
Lastly, and most importantly, we will host a Human Rights Music Festival in Mandalay on the 9th December from 16.00 on-wards at the Mandalar Thiri Stadium. Saw Poe Kwar, Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein, the Junior Creative Dance Crew and other acclaimed artist will join our Mandalay team in commemorating the day.
Our HRETV homage to the UDHR can be found here. Hope you enjoy the video!
Plenty of options to celebrate, no matter where you are! We hope to see you all at the events. Come and share what standing up for human rights means to you. Now, more than ever, we need to come together!
Very best and happy up-coming Human Rights Day.
The EQMM team.
