HREIB released IDAHO poster

The Human Rights Education Institute of Burma (HREIB) released an anti-homophobia and anti-transphobia poster on May 17th, the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO).

The title of the poster is “Homosexuality is not a sickness, but homophobia is.” It depicts scenes among gay, transgender, and transsexual models.

The poster was released prior to IDAHO as a welcoming to the event.

In the past, homosexuality was classified as a mental illness. On May 17th, 1991, the World Health Organization (WHO) removed it from the list of mental disorders. The date is now commemorated as the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.

During the IDAHO ceremony, members of the LGBT community and straight allies gather together to hold anti-homophobia activities, conferences, speeches and parades.

In previous years, HREIB has organized and celebrated the event with the Burmese LGBT community in Thailand. This year, it plans to celebrate in major cities of Burma as well.

If you’d like to order the IDAHO poster, please feel free to contact HREIB.
