Successfully conducted the ‘Basic Human Rights Training’ in Phyu Township

Equality Myanmar (formerly known as Human Rights Education Institute of Burma (H.R.E.I.B)) successfully held the Basic Human Rights Training in Phyu Township.

Equality Myanmar organized the 5-days long training for Basic Human Rights from February 21 to 25, 2014 in Phu Township, Bago Town. In this training, 25 participants are attended mainly from civil society groups’ members and political party members.

During the 5-day training, the trainer facilitated about the fundamental and principles of Human Rights, the history of Human Rights, UDHR 30 articles, the link between Human Rights and 2008 Constitution, and Human Rights complaints mechanisms.

The main objectives of this training were to understand the principles and subject of Human Rights, to build a strong network between Equality Myanmar organization and civil society groups, to build more structured network between training participants and thus making things done better and working as a team, ways of defense against the human rights violation in their communities.

In the training, it was encouraged to discuss each other by using participatory methodology such as group discussion, video/films session, games activities, and individual & group presentation.

According to the echo of this training, “We have significantly noticed wrong concepts of Human Society and Rights after attending the training” said one of the male trainees. One female trainee also said that “It made us to raising our awareness about the dignity of Human. “ I understand now that we have rights as well as we must respect the rights of other people” training convener added.

This training was the first training which was conducted in the Bago Division. The training participants are committed that they will share their learning related Human Rights issues in their own communities.
