DanchurchAid-Norwegian Church Aid (DCA-NCA) started its engagement with two local partners, Equality Myanmar (EQMM) and Local Resource Center (LRC), for the 36 months’ project, “Rights for All: Empowering Human Rights Defenders and Civil Society Organisations to promote and protect the human rights of the most vulnerable groups in Myanmar” in 6 states/regions in Myanmar (Kachin, Northern Shan, Mandalay, Kayin, Mon and Tanintharyi). The project is co-funded by the European Union (EU) and DCA. The project is to promote human rights by empowering the capacities of 550 human rights defenders, 23 local civil society organizations and 200 government officials. It aims to foster effective relationships between CSOs and government authorities.
DanChurchAid-Norwegian Church Aid (DCA-NCA)’s vision for the strategic period 2017-2021 is that “all people in Myanmar are empowered and enjoy a dignified life, and exercise rights in a safe, just, and peaceful way based on inclusive and democratic principles.” We work with a range of stakeholders to link the work at grassroots level with national policy changes, and engage community leaders and faith-based and secular civil society organizations and relevant government offices on all levels. We help our partners through capacity building, networking, and accompaniment.
Equality Myanmar (EQMM) envisions a peaceful, tolerant and democratic society build on respect for dignity and human rights for all in Myanmar. EQMM was founded in 2000 with the goal of empowering the people of Myanmar through human rights education to engage in social transformation and promote a culture of human rights. A Human Rights Education organization in essence, it has also played a central role in coordinating a wider range of advocacy campaigns over the years to raise awareness about the human rights situation at local, national and international levels. The organization produces a range of human rights educational materials, other multimedia resources and human rights information available in Burmese and ethnic languages.
Local Resource Centre (LRC) aims to empower civil society organizations by strengthening CSO institutional capacity through skill development and targeted information dissemination, creating opportunities for CSOs and youth to develop a collective voice, collaborate and influencing policy development and reform by establishing advocacy platforms that encourage broad based dialogue on evidence based data/information.
Amidst this backdrop, DCA-NCA, EQMM and LRC wish to create a photo story book about the project to represent the work carried out through the project to strengthen CSOs and local governance bodies to be better able to access services and rights from all stakeholders, including the government.

The book serves two purposes: to display the progress, impact and learning from the engagement between Human Rights Defenders, Civil Society Organisations and Local Authorities, and how to be accountable and supportive to communities in relation to human rights.
Expected Outcomes
- A clear understanding of the project’s progress, achievements in relation to project objectives, and linkages beween HRDs, CSOs and Local Authorities in 6 regions.
- Experiential learning on human rights approaches with CSOs and HRDs by DCA-NCA and partners through discussion with relevant stakeholders during the fieldtrip.
