Current international principles require societies to respect, defend and advocate for human rights. There are agreements and declarations amongst members of the international community regarding the fulfillment of a human rights program. Powerful and prominent international instruments exist to secure universal human rights and these instruments highlight the critical role that human rights education plays for developing a human rights culture.
Human rights education (HRE) is a lifelong learning process that builds knowledge and skills, as well as attitudes and behaviors, which uphold human rights.
