Successfully conducted Basic Human Rights Training in Loikaw Township

14th – 18th March 2014 (Loikaw Township, Kayah State, Myanmar)

Equality Myanmar (formerly known as Human Rights Education Institute of Burma (H.R.E.I.B)) HRE Program Team (Yangon) successfully conducted Basic Human Rights Training in Loikaw Township, Kayah State, from 14th – 18th March 2014.

In the training, totally 24, female 18/male 6, participants from different organizations and department such as Township Administrative Office, Children and Women Affairs, Myanmar Women Affairs, Civil Society Organizations, participated.

During five days training, the issues discussed in this training were; the principles and characteristics of Human Rights, the History of Human Rights, Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 30, the linkage between Human Rights and Constitutional Chapter 8 and the complaint mechanism.

The objective of the training was to understand the principles of Human Rights, to enhance the cooperation between Equality Myanmar and participants, to increase the networking and coordination between participants, and to enable the actions against Human Rights violations in their respective communities.

The methodologies used by trainers were interactive discussions, dynamic group discussions and presentations, using different kinds of teaching tools for the effectiveness of the training.

One participant from Township Administrative Office described the training that “I came to understand more about the reason of why current different demonstrations taking place in the country.”

At the same time, another female participant, from Children and Women Affairs, also expressed that “I realized about how much the importance of my current work in terms of promoting children and women rights”

This training has also been the trademark as the activity conducting between the Equality Myanmar and the governmental offices. Moreover, the resources persons from Township Administrative Office also shared their experiences and knowledge regardless of the current challenges on the good governance and rule of law. At the end of the training, the participants also committed to share the knowledge that they gained from the training to their community.
