successfully accomplished the second Basic Human Rights Training in Loikaw

26 -30 April 2014 (Loikaw Township, Kayah State, Myanmar)

Equality Myanmar (Yangon) has accomplished a five day human rights training in Loikaw, Kayah State, started from 26th to 30th April 2014.

About 20 participants, who are political activists, political party members, and social workers, were invited to the training. This training become the second HRE training at Loikaw Township for the Year 2014.

During five day training, participants had to learn about definition of human rights, history of human rights, UDHR articles (30), Linkage between human rights and 2008 constitutional chapter (8), and complaint mechanism.

The training’s objective was to increase understanding of human rights, to expand network between Equality Myanmar and local CSOs, to come out small self-help groups working for human rights, and to be able to solve human rights violation in the society.

A 21 year old participant said that, “From this training, I learn that land confiscation is also human rights violation. Another reflection is that there are still many traditional thinking and practices that are contradictory to human rights norms.”

During the training, there have been also a sharing session from those local township officers who contributed knowledge and experience sharing to participants on what they are doing and good practices they are in use.
