Women Participation in Public Life started at Mandalay Office
4 – 6 May (EQMM Mandalay Office, Aungmyaythazan Township, Mandalay Division, Myanmar)
Equality Myanmar (Mandalay) has conducted a three day workshop on Women Participation in Public Life started from 4th – 6th May at Mandalay Office, with 27 participants who are from Southern Shan, Kachin, Mandalay, Sagaing Division, and Magway Division.
The participants also represented different organizations such as LRC, ME Center (Magway), Helping Hands Org, Htoi Gender Development Foundation, Mandalay Youth Network, YMCA, MYF, LGBT Community, Mandalay Youth Network, Sagaing Youth Network, ABSDF, CSDS, TaMar Yeik, Myit Myat Irrawaddy, Shwe Min Tha Foundation, and FTUM.
The workshop aimed to achieve for the increase of women participation in public life.
As a result, the participants gained knowledge on Gender Based Discrimination and identified differences of Gender Role and its impact on socio-economic life. Moreover, the workshop realized participants about the importance of self-based change to national change.
During the workshop, one training attendance shared his feeling that, “I realize myself that I am still under self-stereotyping. I strongly support for 30 percent of women quota in parliament. And, I really like the concept of Temporary Special Measurement.”
