Equality Myanmar participated the 10th UN International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action held on 4th April, Yangon from 9:00 – 11:30 am. The main organizers of the event were organizations like Peace Myanmar Aid Foundation, Association of Myanmar Disabled Women’s Affairs, and Humanitarian Mine Action Initiative Myanmar. At the commemoration event, totally 50 people from UN agencies, INGOs, LNGOs, Minister of Yangon divisions, and land mine victims participated. The UN Themes for this 2015 year is : “More Than Mines”.
The commemoration started with a short remark by U Myint Swe, Chief Minister of Yangon Regional Government followed by series of speeches such as Dr. Su Su Thar Tun, Senior Advisor to the UN on Peace and Development; Mr.Yann Faivre, Program Director, Handicap International; and U Thant Zin, President of PMA.
During those speeches, a Land mine DVD songs were shown produced by Equality Myanmar. Moreover, Equality Myanmar also distributed over 50 Landmine DVDs songs copies to those people. The event was covered by lots of domestic media both print and broadcast TV like MITV, MNTV, MWD, 5 Plus, Eleven Media, and People Affairs.
The event ended with a practical outdoor demonstration session of Humanitarian Mine Clearance performed by Norwegian People’s Aid, Myanmar.
