Speaking on human rights defenders situation at the side event of UN Human Rights Council today in Geneva Points are
– No particulw law fr protectionand Prmotion of Human Rights Defenders exist. Privacy Law is enacted but not effective enforcement in place yet.
– Some repressive laws threatening HRDs such as Tele Communication law, Peaceful Assembly Law, Defamation Act, State’s Secret Act and Unlawful Association Act still exist and misuse of these laws. Cases of peaceful demonstrators, Peace activists and Media persons charged under these laws.
