An active civil society will foster pluralism and contribute to sustainable development and inclusive growth.
This is why the EU is working extensively with civil society in Myanmar through the EU Roadmap for Engagement with Civil Society. This week, we were part of a lively and dynamic two-day debate which brought together around 80 participants from a wide range of sectors, including both civil society leaders and the government, the EU and other donor agencies. We talked about how to create an enabling environment for civil society to become a more active part of Myanmar’s democratic transition. And what can the media, the private sector and development partners do to support civil society become part of the process? We got plenty of ideas and inspiration for our future work – a big thank you to the organisers Local Resource Centre, Equality Myanmar and Action Aid-Myanmar !
