Nowhere else in the human rights system NGO information is treated on a par with UN information and a state\u2019s national report as the 3 bases for a UN process. For Myanmar, particularly, it is one of the few UN mechanisms that can apply pressure on the GoM to ensure it adheres to its international human rights obligations.<\/p>\n<p>EQMM has been a leading organizations in facilitating and coordinating civil society\u2019s engagement in the UPR process in Myanmar. In 2010, 2014 and again in 2018 EQMM organized national workshops and consultations with civil society and the diplomatic community to produce joint stakeholder reports that were submitted to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights prior to Myanmar\u2019s 1st and 2nd cycle UPR and then during the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> cycle mid-term review, emphasizing critical human rights issues identified by member organizations and included first-hand accounts of human rights violations related to each of these issues.<\/p>\n<p>The leadership of EQMM has been instrumental in ensuring civil society\u2019s participation the UPR Burma\/Myanmar Forum, composed of 42 human rights groups both inside and in exile; the HRC Plenary Session; and diplomatic briefing sessions; as well as raising awareness through local media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Themed-focused Advocacy Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Process.
