ICCPR

Advancing ICCPR for Myanmar

Despite its commitment to a democratic reform process, the Government of Myanmar has yet to sign or ratify the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), one of the key components of the Universal Bill of Rights and of sustained democratic reform. EQMM is very active raising awareness about the importance and urgency of signing and ratifying the ICCPR.

The main objective of this advocacy project is to move the Myanmar Government closer to signing and ratifying the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) through conducting strategic advocacy, and educating and empowering civil society to conduct advocacy on the issue. At the same time, we are raising awareness on the ICCPR amongst prospective stakeholders through participatory training and building networks such as the ICCPR Action Group, composed of representatives from 44 local civil society organizations.

As part of this project, a signature campaign has been rolled out in the country collecting more than 10.000 signatures.
